Cabin for Sale - Pine Valley Farm 4/8/2009

Pine Valley Farm was established in 1930 as a private trout fishing club with a limited 18 memberships. The “farm” spreads over 1,000 acres of pristine pine and oak forests, prairie openings, kettle ponds, and wetlands and is bisected by nine miles of private Wisconsin “class 1” trout streams. Spring Creek, Sand Creek, and the Clam River all converge in the center of Pine Valley and flow out as the Clam River, one of the Midwest’s top rivers to fish the famous “hex” mayfly hatch. All three streams are spring-fed, very productive trout streams managed as strict fly fishing only, catch and release fisheries for wild brown and brook trout. The Clam River supports large trout, many exceeding 20”, that readily come to a hex fly during the evening hatch of this super-sized mayfly. Spring Creek is a classic watercress-filled small spring creek loaded with of 8” to 12” trout (with larger trout moving into this Clam tributary in late summer in preparation to spawn). Sand Creek is a mid-sized, spring fed, easily waded steam flowing through meadows and forests where 10” to 16” brown trout rise to BWO and caddis hatches in spring and key in on grasshoppers in August/September. Located just east of Fredrick, Wisconsin, only a two hour drive from Minneapolis/Saint Paul, Pine Valley is close enough to the Twin Cities to run up for an evening of hex fishing after work and big and wild enough to keep you engaged for multi-week summer retreats.

Besides some of the Midwest’s best trout fishing, Pine Valley Farm also offers good hunting for grouse, duck, and deer. Plus excellent bird watching for bald eagles, sand hill cranes, woodland warblers, woodcock, and many other species. And this wilderness-like setting is laced with an extensive network of walking trails through groves of oak, aspen, white and red pine (some old growth white pines exceed 12 feet in circumference), and prairie openings overlooking kettle ponds. Additional amenities include a spring fed pond stocked with rainbow trout for kids to learn to fish, a trap shooting range, and a rope swing over the swimming hole on the Clam River. Pine Valley is abutted on the north side by public land, including the Clam River State Fishery Area, offering abundant additional fishing and hunting opportunities.

A membership at Pine Valley includes a 1/18th ownership of Pine Valley Farm Inc., a cabin, and unlimited access to fishing/ hunting/hiking the entire property. The cabin with this membership overlooks Sand Creek, has two bed rooms, a full batch, kitchen, living room with wood-burning stove, a screened-in porch, and an open deck. An unfinished walk-out basement can be upgraded to provide additional bed rooms, bath, or fly tying work shop.
