President's Corner 9/7/2005

  The President’s Corner

For more than forty years the Twin Cities Chapter of Trout Unlimited has worked towards coldwater conservation.

Members throughout the state have worked hard to preserve our treasured trout streams, as Chapter President I am humbled by the way our talent has worked together to achieve short terms goals and made strategic plans for the future. Our chapter is blessed with an incredible collection of truly talented individuals and it has been a real joy to watch as we continue to evolve into a highly effective team. This has been clearly demonstrated first by the McKnight Foundation recognizing our dedication to preserving open spaces, and then by the chapter setting recruitment records and raising the bar for other chapters throughout the United States.

We (TCTU) along with the rest of the Minnesota chapters have been chosen to host the 2006 Trout Unlimited National Convention; this represents a tremendous vote of confidence on the part of the national organization. Finally, the week of 09/05/2005 several board members and I will travel to Denver for a very special occasion. I am honored and humbled to be accepting on behalf of our Great Chapter the 2005 Gold Trout Award on Friday September 9. This is the greatest single award given to a chapter, and recognizes the chapter that has made the greatest all around contribution to coldwater conservation.

Remember... there are 450+ chapters in the U.S. and all of you are being recognized as being the Best! I am extremely flattered to accept this award on behalf of the hard work by many many individuals. Thank you one and all! There is plenty of work yet to be done as there always will be and 2006 will be a very busy year! The future of this chapter is brighter than ever, if you are looking for a way to increase your personal rewards on our trout streams we have plenty of volunteer opportunities available.

As chapter president I invite you to become actively involved in Trout Unlimited. You need not be a fisheries expert, each of us have individual talents that can help contribute to the legacy of healthy streams. “Give us just a few hours of your time to help make a difference in the future of our natural resources”.

Our mission is to work towards protecting and restoring coldwater habitat and the education of the general public on the importance of healthy trout streams. We commit these resources in the hope that future generations of anglers will be able to experience the natural beauty of our streams and continue the fine heritage of our sport.
