RESTORE

In August 2008 Twin CitiesTrout Unlimited (TCTU) in conjunction with the Hiawatha TU Chapter embarked on the first restoration project, tackling almost a half mile of overgrown land on Hay Creek near Red Wing, MN.  TCTU members, trout anglers, stream enthusiasts, conservationists and fans of clean watersheds volunteered their time to restore this precious watershed.

With the great success of this first restoration project in 2008 TCTU has continued to work with local resource agencies, community based groups and area watershed experts to further the habitat restoration on Hay Creek, Eagle Creek and the Vermillion.  Restoration projects have always been the bread-and-butter of TU’s volunteer forces and, the most visible.  Much of the great trout fishing we enjoy today is a direct result of all the hard work and many hours put in by TCTU members and volunteers.   Thank you to all who have and continue to participate.

Restoration is the future of our watersheds.  A successful project has the ability to get a volunteer of the present or next generation, out in a watershed in their backyard.  Maybe it is their first time ever, walking around in that creek or maybe that first-time volunteer will realize that these beautiful creeks are worth saving.  Saving it not only for the fish but also for all other native species.

Take a look at the collection of photos from the past TCTU projects and join us in restoring theses great watersheds.
