THE COLD-WATER CHRONICLES (BLOG)

The President's Angle

I hope everyone enjoyed Bill Sherck’s videos and stories at our April chapter meeting.   Also, if you have the opportunity and time, make sure you sign-up to volunteer at Tune Camp, this is a great opportunity to serve.  At our upcoming May meeting, we will discuss other opportunities to volunteer for youth activities over the summer.
On a separate topic, I did some fishing in the Minnesota Driftless Area since our last meeting, and noticed some bank erosion problem.  This is causing problems with the trout stream filling with sediments and the farmer losing his land. That reminds me how important it is to continue our work on habitat improvement and to support other organizations that sponsor habitat work/stream restorations.

Lately, I would rather be outside enjoying the weather than listening to talking heads discussing tariffs and the plummeting stock market. On one of my recent fishing outings, I got chased by a fellow Canadian…..
A Canadian Goose protecting the female nesting close by.   This not-so-friendly Canadian, was hissing and charging until I left the scene.  I gave up fishing a good riffle with rising fish.   I gave this stretch of the stream a break and looked into some other fishing opportunities.
For the Wisconsin fishing opener, I tried my luck on a lake near Eau Claire I had fished before.  No bass caught, but I was able to catch some pike by mousing.   Pike coming to the surface to hit the fly--fun!   Got a few outings on the Rush.  Browns I have caught there have pretty much the same appearance, but this one was so colorful that I thought I would share the picture.   I know you have caught some big and beautiful ones too.

I am looking forward to see many of you at our last chapter meeting of the season.   Per your comments last year, we move the meeting to May 19th, to avoid conflicts with Memorial Day.

Until our next meeting, I encourage you to go out there and enjoy the nice weather.  Tight lines!
