WHAT WE DO

Trout Unlimited’s mission is to protect, reconnect, restore, and sustain cold-water fisheries and their watersheds. We strive to accomplish our mission by focusing on four distinct objectives.

Habitat Work

Restoring and maintaining habitat. This may be what TU is best known for. Our volunteers work on projects that reduce erosion, restore native vegetation, narrow and deepen channels, and reconnect streams with their natural floodplains. Once these projects are completed, we monitor stream health and conduct maintenance as needed. ​

Advocacy

Advocating for government policies and regulations that will protect our streams and watersheds and allow angling access while taking into account the rights and interests of land owners. Join with other TCTU members to engage with legislators, attend hearings, and write letters.

Education

Educating the next generation of anglers and conservationists. TCTU supports Trout in the Classroom, an award-winning science program that helps schoolchildren learn about trout and their environment. In the summer, we take kids fishing! We provide volunteers for a number of fishing skills programs located throughout the Metro area.

Community Building

Building a community of cold-water conservationists. Through regular chapter meetings, fishing camps, fly casting clinics, and other activities, we create friendships, share information, and build partnerships with like-minded organizations.
